colourise

Ok.. I'm going to show you how I made a relatively simple colourise. I made this in Paint Shop Pro, so if you're using Photoshop the mode names might vary a little bit.

1. Open your grayscale picture and check if the colour depth is 16 Million colours. (image> Increase color depth>16 M. colours) Otherwhise it might happen that you can only pick gray tones. And like that it would be quite hard to colour an image. result

SKIN
1. New layer, blend mode: color(legacy) 70%, fill the layer with e69e64
2. New layer, blend mode: color(legacy) 24%, fill the layer with e66473
3. New layer, blend mode: overlay 36%, fill the layer with 9a5834
4. New layer, blend mode: exclusion 10%, fill the layer with 1af2e5
5. New layer, blend mode: burn 40%, fill the layer with d9f0f9
result
6. Duplicate the original bw pic and put it on top of the layers we had so far, blend mode: screen, opacity 6%

TEETH
1. Layer the original BW (black & white) pic, blend mode: normal 100%. Use the lasso tool to feather out the teeth (2px feather). Then use select invert to change the selection. result. Remove the selection so that all that is left are the white teeth. Set opacity to 54%.

EYES

2. Use the lasso tool to feather out the lips (9px feather). Make sure you deselct the teeth. Than use selections>promote selection to layer.

4. Duplicate layer but set the settings to overlay 10% and fill with 834b29
5. Selections>deselect all. result

FLESH ABOVE TEETH

2. Use the lasso tool to feather out the flesh (2px feather). Then use selections>promote selection to layer.

The only thing you need to do now is change the background, add borders & text and so on. But this was the basic! Ofcourse your blend will look nicer if use more layers. But I tried to minimalise it or otherwhise the text would've been enormous! final result
